Lakeland Area Hospice: We Honor Veterans
Lakeland Area Hospice is dedicated to providing you with dignified, compassionate care wherever you call home, whether home is an Assisted Living Facility, a Nursing Home, or in the home you have lived for years. We take a palliative approach to care for people with advanced illnesses. When you choose the Hospice Benefit, our team of professionals will have open discussions with you and your loved ones so that we can establish a plan of care that honors all your personal decisions and choices.
We have partnered with the We Honor Veterans program of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and Veteran's Administration (VA). The program is designed to empower hospice professionals to meet the unique needs of dying Veterans through teaching respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and greatful acknowledgement to comfort patients with a history of military service. As part of the partnership, Lakeland can draw upon resources from the local VA hospital, VetCenter, County Veterans Service Office, and Veterans Service Organizations so that we can provide veterans with additional support from those who may have served in their branch of the military or area of service.
Lakeland Area Hospice works with veteran patients to ensure they receive all the benefits that they are entitled to receive. Veterans will also be asked for any preferences they may have for staff and/or volunteers who also served in the military. If you, or a veteran you know, might be interested in volunteering, please let our volunteer coordinator know about any military experience you have. Volunteers with military experience have a special ability to support our veteran patients.
Life is full of moments to live, and Hospice is about living each moment.
