Mercyhurst Veterans Tribute Weekend |

Mercyhurst University will be hosting a Veterans Tribute Weekend Nov. 11-12. All events will take place on the Erie campus and are free and open to the public. The weekend begins with a Mission 22 event from 6:00 to 8:00pm in the Carolyn Hermann Student Union. Mission 22 is a nonprofit dedicated to helping end veteran suicide in America. Suicide prevention/awareness speakers and the Veterans Administration Medical Center Suicide Prevention coordinator will be present. Military gear will be on display, and Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) will be available to sample. Visitors can also write thank you cards to veterans and service members and participate in camouflage face painting and a push-up contests. Marco’s Pizza will provide complimentary pizza and refreshments. This event will be sponsored by the Mercyhurst Student Activities and Multicultural Activities councils. Saturday begins with family-friendly tailgate activities including lawn games, gift bags for kids, and an appearance by Mercyhurst’s mascot, Luke the Laker at the Center for Academic Engagement from 10:00 to 11:30am. The Mercyhurst University Hospitality Program will prepare a brunch free to veterans and their families who RSVP to Dr. Morahan (814-824-2909) by November 8th. The Mercyhurst vs. Lock Haven football game will begin at noon at the Tullio Field, featuring the football team’s annual Senior Day Celebration, the Mercyhurst Marching Band, a Military Color Guard, a Military Vehicle Display, an “Old Glory” recital, bell-ringing and flag-raising during pre-game and halftime ceremonies.
